CHICAGO BULLS (45-32) @ MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (38-38)
Game 78, Road Game 39
Wednesday, April 9, 2014 – 7:00 PM CT
Target Center
Comcast SportsNet / ESPN 1000 AM
NBA League Pass Ch. 761 (Bulls broadcast), Ch. 762 (T-Wolves broadcast)
The Bulls really need this win, they are still tied with Toronto at 45-32 and the Raptors have the tie-breaker. Toronto plays the Sixers at home tonight, which is as close as you can come to a guaranteed win, and the Bulls need to keep pace.
The Wolves are 39-38, and they beat the Spurs by 19 points last night. It helps the Bulls that Minny is in a back-to-back, but they were at home last night and didn't have to travel. The Wolves are already eliminated from the playoffs, so hopefully the Bulls will come out and play with a sense of urgency since they need the game more.
The Bulls have won 5 in a row and 7 of 8, and they need to win their last 5 and hope that Toronto loses one of their last 5 games. But Toronto finishes with Philly, NY, @detroit, Milwaukee, and @ny, which means it's certainly possible that the Bulls can win out and still not get the #5 seed.
Of course, the Pacers could still get their heads out of their asses in time to beat out Miami for the #1 seed- they are 1/2 game behind the Heat, and the Heat play in Memphis tonight. But the final Pacers/Heat game is in Miami, and the Heat can still afford to lose a game as long as they beat the Pacers.
While I'd rather play the Wizards (if we finish #3) than the Nets (if we finish #4) in the first round, that's not as important as making sure we get Indy instead of Miami in the 2nd round. I know that both of them have struggled over the last month, but I still think the Pacers are much, much more beatable than the Heat in the 2nd round.
But first things first, we have to beat the Wolves tonight. That means we have to beat the RealGM'ers Bulls "fans" new favorite player, Gorgui Dieng. He has put up good numbers lately, starting the last 10 games and averaging 12.3 points and 12.0 rebounds in 31.6 minutes. Of course, it's easy to put up numbers on a run-and-gun team that has been out of the playoff picture for the last month, so we'll see tonight what he really looks like as an NBA player.
